Chiang Ching-kuo supervised economic control work in Shanghai as a member of the Economic Control Committee. During a time of extreme turmoil in the country, Madame Chiang Soong Mei-ling, the wife of his father Chiang Kai-shek, did not forget to keep in touch with Chiang Ching-kuo's wife Faina, reminding her to take good care of her health, especially when Chiang Ching-kuo was away on official duties. Madame Chiang emphasized the importance of caring for the children's physical and mental well-being. These letters were carefully preserved by Faina.
Among the six selected family letters on display, four were handwritten with a brush pen in the traditional Chinese style between 1947 and 1948. The other two letters were written in 1961 to wish Faina a happy birthday. Madame Chiang's handwritten letters provide a glimpse into her family life and her relationship with Chiang Ching-kuo's family.
