Chiang Ching-kuo's Photos

Chiang Ching-kuo served as President of the Republic of China between 1978 and 1988. He made a vital contribution to the development and modernization of Taiwan. During those critical years, thanks to his outstanding leadership, Taiwan not only successfully transformed its economy, it also moved from martial law and authoritarianism to democracy and openness, establishing the model of the “Taiwan experience.”
The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange has preserved this historical site to remember Chiang Ching-kuo and the modernization experience of Taiwan under his leadership. We have also built the first presidential library in the history of the Republic of China, the “Chiang Ching-kuo Presidential Library.”The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange worked with the KMT, or Nationalist Party of the Republic of China, to preserve the historical records held in the party's archives and digitized photos.

In May 1930, the Kuomintang established the Kuomintang Central Party History Committee in Nanjing. The main objectives of the new committee were to collect and conserve historical documents and items related to the 1911 Revolution. After the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, the KMT relocated to Chongqing, taking the historical documents and items with them, before returning to Nanjing following victory in the Second World War. In the winter of 1948, the historical documents and items were transported to Taiwan and temporarily stored in Taichung before being moved to Taipei. Following a KMT party reorganization in 2000, the Party History Committee was merged with the Cultural Work Committee, creating the KMT Culture and Communications Committee and the Party History Archives were established under the Culture and Communications Committee. The Party History Archives continue to collect, organize, and exhibit historical materials, with more than 3 million historical items currently in possession.
